Scrimba Frontend Development Career Path Review: Is It Worth It?

Table of Contents

If you want to become a frontend developer, you've probably come across Scrimba's Frontend Development Career Path. But is it worth your time and money?

As a graduate of this course, I’ll share my honest review covering the curriculum, pricing, advantages, and potential downsides to help you decide if it's the right choice.

What is Scrimba?

Scrimba is an interactive coding platform that makes learning web development more engaging.

Instead of traditional video lectures, Scrimba uses interactive screencasts, allowing students to pause, edit, and play with the instructor’s code in real time.

Why is Scrimba Different?

πŸ’‘ Interactive Learning – Modify the instructor’s code inside the lesson.
πŸ’‘ Hands-on Projects – Work on real-world projects to build a portfolio.
πŸ’‘ Active Community – Get support from Scrimba’s Discord server.
πŸ’‘ Career Support – Resume help, interview prep, and job-ready training.

Scrimba Pricing: How Much Does It Cost?

Scrimba follows a subscription-based model, offering access to all courses for a monthly or annual fee.

Scrimba has region-based pricing. For example, when I try to purchase a subscription from the USA, it shows $39 / month, and from Nepal, it shows NPR 1080 / month, which is equivalent to $8.

You can see the annual and monthly pricing of Scrimba in the image below:

πŸ’° Scrimba Pricing Plans (as of 2025):

  • Monthly Plan – $39 per month

  • Annual Plan – $234 per year ($19.50 per month)

Unlike Udemy, where you pay once for a course, Scrimba requires a renewable subscription. The benefit? You get unlimited access to all courses, not just one.

What I Liked About Scrimba

1. Interactive Learning Experience

Instead of passively watching, Scrimba lets you edit the instructor’s code in real time. This hands-on approach accelerates learning.

I really loved the ability to modify the instructor’s code directly and solve the challenge right away instead of requiring me to set it up on my computer.

If you have never seen such a thing before, you may be wondering what the heck this is!

When you watch tutorials in Scrimba, they are not videos.

Yes, you’ve read it correctly.

Instead of traditional screen recording, they use DOM recording to allow students to pause and edit the instructor’s code.

But don’t worry, you will feel like watching a normal tutorial video, but with the added superpower.

Also, the instructors ask you to solve many challenges in that way throughout the course.

2. Well-Structured Curriculum

The step-by-step learning path ensures you gain practical, job-ready skills. As you have already seen in the syllabus above, the course has covered everything from web dev basics like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to advanced React, code reviews, and a dedicated “getting hired” section.

3. Real-World Portfolio Projects

By the end of the course, you’ll have a strong portfolio to showcase to employers. The course offers project-based learning.

They teach every concept by doing small projects.  And at the end of a section, they assign a solo project that you have to do alone.

But don’t worry, they have an active Discord community for students.

4. Active Community & Career Support

Scrimba’s Discord community is one of my favorite communities.

When you finish your solo project, you can submit a live demo and the code so that instructors or peers can review your code and provide valuable feedback.

The Discord channel has various rooms such as:

  • Career chat – where you discuss careers

  • Today I did – where you share your work

  • I got hired – where you share if you got hired and see who’s been hired

  • Help channels – get help when you are stuck

5. Certification Upon Completion

Scrimba provides certificates of completion, which you can add to your resume and LinkedIn.

Potential Downsides of Scrimba

Subscription-Based Model – Unlike Udemy, Scrimba requires a monthly or yearly subscription. Once your subscription ends, you lose access to the courses.

However, you can access all Scrimba courses, not just one. But there’s no way to buy only one course yet, and you may not be interested in all the courses.

That’s completely my personal opinion. Some of you may love this feature, and some of you may not.

I hope this makes it easier for you to decide whether you should go with Scrimba or not.

My Journey and Outcome

I completed the Scrimba Frontend Development Career Path, and it was a game-changer. The interactive learning, structured projects, and career support made a huge impact on my development skills.

It also helped me land my first internship at a local software company.

If you’re serious about front-end development, Scrimba is 100% worth considering.

They also offer other courses related to programming and AI.
